01 Project Overview

LIVEHELP is an application focused on helping and assisting people. The application helps the well-being and health of users who need to be located and attended to in case of accidents. The main target users of LIVEHELP include people who normally practice risky sports such as hiking, climbing, cycling, the elderly who live alone, people with heart disease. Those who would like to feel safer with immediate and personalized assistance in the event of an accident, such as a reminder to take medications, step counter, calories, heart rate, as well as including a section with exercises / physical games and mental agility.

  • Project Duration:
  • July 2021 to January 2022
The Problem

In the world, cardiovascular diseases are the deadliest in the world, since they will claim 17.3 million lives annually. The percentage of people who say they use the bicycle with some frequency in Spain went from 41.3% in 2018 to 60.7% in 2021. An example of them is that in Spain outdoor sports are booming after the pandemic, as it is considered a safe activity against Covid 19. Therefore, the possibility of having an accident far from the urban area increases.

My Role

Design an application that improves the speed of assistance in the event of any accident or emergency and that helps improve the health and well-being of citizens through exercises or games and information on their habits.

The Goal

UX designer leading the design of the responsive website and app from conception to delivery.

Responsabilities

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.

02 User Research Summary:

I used data from LIVEHELP on the number of deaths from emergencies or unattended accidents quickly and efficiently to develop interview questions, which were then used to conduct user interviews. Most interview participants reported feeling bad about the number of accident deaths and cardiovascular disease. The feedback received through the research made it very clear that users would be open to improving their well-being if they had access to an easy-to-use tool from which to obtain information on their daily activity and calorie intake. And that they would feel safer when practicing any sport away from the city if they were sending a location signal.

03 Responsive Designs:

Layouts for screen size variation for mobile devices. I optimized the designs to adapt to the specific needs of the user of each device and screen size.

04 Before & After Usability Study:

Based on insights from usability studies, I applied design changes such as providing a clear section from the home screen to activate fall detection, geolocation of your family, medication reminders, your habits and some exercises to exercise both body and mind.

Additional design changes included the addition of an explanatory listening feature on all screens for the visually impaired. Also added an arrow to go back to the previous page. And the app logo at the bottom of the screen to access the main menu.

05 Key Mockups:

If you'd like to see all key mockups, you will find an image in this site saying 'Full Case Study'.

06 High-Fidelity Prototype:

The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including design changes made after the usability study.

NEXT STEPS
1

Conduct research on the success of the application in reaching the goal of reducing deaths from falls or cardiac arrest.

2

Add more educational resources on sports and health so that users know the benefits of a healthy body.

3

Provide a series of simple exercises to do anywhere so they can see how their health evolves and feel rewarded for the effort.

Takeaway
Impact

Impact: Users shared that the app made preventing death from a fall or cardiac arrest through immediate assistance seem like something that could really help reduce mortality.

A quote from peer comments: 'LIVEHELP app helps you feel more confident when hiking in the mountains, as well as track your personal health in an easy and engaging way'.

What I learned

I learned that even though the problem I was trying to solve was a big one, diligently going through each step of the design process and aligning with specific user needs helped me come up with solutions that were both feasible and useful.
